Metcalf & Eddy to Produce Textbook Series with McGraw-Hill

Textbooks for Students and Professionals Will Cover Water, Wastewater, Water Reuse, and Environment Management

WAKEFIELD, MA (Aug. 4, 2005) —  Metcalf & Eddy, an AECOM company, has entered into an agreement with McGraw-Hill Professional, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies Inc., to publish a series of textbooks for students and environmental and engineering professionals. This series, called the Metcalf & Eddy Press, will cover a range of water, wastewater, water reuse and environmental management topics. The Metcalf & Eddy Press is scheduled to produce two to three new books a year.

“This agreement represents a significant step towards extending M&E's commitment to sharing the best knowledge with the industry for a practice that has been in place for almost one hundred years,” said M&E Chief Engineer Jim Anderson. M&E's textbooks, Wastewater Engineering – Treatment and Reuse and its companion Wastewater Engineering – Collection and Pumping of Wastewater, are standard reference books for the engineering field and will continue to be published and updated in the future. “The Metcalf & Eddy Press will supplement the present line of academic textbooks, not replace them,” said Anderson.

“I know of no other program for sharing knowledge like the world-renowned Metcalf & Eddy Textbook Program,” said M&E President Steve Guttenplan. “At M&E, we take great pride in that.”

“We are excited about this collaboration,” said AECOM Chief Operating Officer John Dionisio, “as this program could eventually be expanded to other AECOM operating companies.”

The first book planned by the new Metcalf & Eddy Press will be Water Reuse: Policy, Technology and Applications.  The authors are: Takashi Asano, Ph.D, the 2001 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate; George Tchobanoglous, Ph.D, a recent appointment to the National Academy of Engineers; and Franklin Burton, former Vice President of M&E.  Several other books are presently under discussion and production of those will start shortly.
